-----  INTRO  -----

The purpose of this page is to create a "soap box" for me to climb up on and voice my scruffy little opinions on public issues.

NO SMOKING?    NO PATRONAGE!!!   BOYCOTT!!!

One of the issues going on now, is the push to forbid cigarette smoking. Understand: This is an economic issue, NOT a public health issue. Statements about "second-hand smoke" are well-paid publications of rationalizations designed to placate the public into accepting and then promoting this measure. It's crap. The actual health studies I've seen in the past (when this first began) don't support 2nd-hand smoke being a public health risk. The real issues are two-fold. One, is insurance company profits. The truly wealthy use insurance company stock as "safe money" storage. They're afraid public smoking will decrease profits, so they're doing everything they can to get it banned. Also, the truly wealthy don't frequent the same establishments the rest of the public goes to. They can afford cooks and servants to have better than restaurant quality meals, beverages, and parties at home. They'd rather not "rub shoulders" with the rest of us. I think this new prohibition has very little affect on their daily living. The other issue is promotion of a police state. Banning smoking creates the potential for more arrests, bolstering the public coffers via fines from the pockets of tobacco smokers, and (given repeat offenders violating prohibition) re-stocking the supply of prisoners that get trained into hardened criminals by the inhumane conditions in prisons. (You can't justify the costs, hardships, and suffering created by a police state, without unsafe conditions and violent criminals for the public to fear.) Also, when the smoking public avoids going into public places, they become a silent and unseen, suppressed, divided, and ostracised minority.

Another associated issue, in the abuse of cigarette smokers, is the HUGE taxes being levvied against them. Smokers are a minority, and have been singled out as vulnerable to extreme taxation. I'm a cigarette smoker, and proud of it. I can only speculate re. exactly whose interests are being promoted at my expense, but I know one thing for sure - it's not MINE. My best guess, is that the cost of me obtaining tobacco is currently about 90% TAXES. I consider this to be taxation without representation - a fundamental violation of the principles of our constitution; in fact, it's one of the primary issues that led to the American Revolution. DON'T LET IT HAPPEN AGAIN! OPPOSE THIS!

My personal opinion, is that I don't like this new prohibition. I'm not comfortable hanging out in places that don't allow cigarette smoking. In fact, before this prohibition went into effect, I avoided patronizing any establishment that wouldn't let me smoke inside. I believe a lot of people have that same attitude. Here's a basic fact: The business community won't spend the money and rally in the interests of opposing this law, until they become convinced that this law has harmed their incomes! (Which, of course, goes without saying - it has, and it will continue to do so for as long as the prohibition lasts.) So, go into non-smoking establishments, and tell them you won't patronize them unless they take a stand against this prohibition. Make your opinion and intentions known, and get them motivated!

It is my opinion that the only way to obstruct this prohibition, is for the public to voice its opposition to it. This requires everyone who's suffering hardship because of it to relentlessly pester their representatives in government - AND to announce support of a BOYCOTT against any and all establishments that don't allow indoor smoking.

I BOYCOTT "SNIPE LAKE PUB" IN IRON RIVER, MI
- AND, I RECOMMEND THAT YOU DO, TOO.

Please note, that I'm not going to attempt to explain this situation. I got halfway through a document detailing the events, and a basic fact hit me: I'm poor. I can't afford lawyers to defend me. My guess, is that the owner of that pub can probably afford lawyers to twist the facts into whatever "truth" serves their advantage - or, even inexpensively arrange for new "facts" on an as-needed basis. So, I won't try to explain online, what was done to me at Snipe Lake Pub. In fact, I've even withdrawn all of the sessions details entries re. Snipe Lake Pub, from my Open Stage sessions list. (Better safe, than sorry!) The last (only) thing I intend to write about the situation is this:

It is my opinion that I am fully justified in calling for a boycott of Snipe Lake Pub.
And, that opinion won't change, until I receive a full apology, from the owner of that pub.

-----  IN CONCLUSION  -----

I hope you've enjoyed reading my list!
More will added as events occur.

May you be guided and protected
as you pass through life!
